Latin America

Latin America
the dream of The Osito Foundation is to establish clinics in every Latin American from Mexico to Brazil orginates from the founders of The Osito Foundation. The Osito Foundation would purchase a multilevel building and on the first floor would be the “Osito Clinica” and the other floors would be leased to local businesses and the revenue generated from the leases would go to help provide the free HIV/AIDS Services.

Oscar Velasquez and Rod Castle, life-partners, co-founded The Osito Foundation in July of 2008. Oscar and Rod’s (aka The Osito Boys) passion to raise awareness for children impacted by HIV/AIDS began with a simple desire to help children. After learning about the millions of children impacted by HIV/AIDS and difficulties they encounter, such as sickness, poverty, discrimination and the painful stigma associated by having HIV or living in a home with a parent who is HIV positive. Oscar and Rod made the decision to act on their desire to help.

The Osito Foundation is a 501(c)(3) providing Teddy Bears to Children & Youth who have been impacted by
HIV/AIDS.
Teddy Bears are known for their positive psychological affect on improving emotional health.

Teddy Bears are not as important as other social services such as: food, clothing or medicine. Osito is special because its core mission is not just the emotional well being of children but also desires to provide social services to those impacted by HIV/AIDS.

From the beginning of Osito Oscar and Rod had a long term vision not to just give a child a Teddy Bear but to reach into the whole family who has been impacted by HIV.

February 12, 2010 Osito made history by hosting the first Children's AIDS Day. Children's AIDS Day was a day where children, youth, and families impacted by HIV/AIDS were the focus.

Governor of Texas Rick Perry honored The Osito Foundation with a special letter of support and Congresswomen Shelia Jackson Lee presented Osito with a Special Certificate of Congressional Recognition. Newly elected Houston Mayor Annise Parker who has been a long time leader in the fight against HIV/AIDS made a special appearance and delivered a Proclamation proclaiming February 12th, 2010 Children's AIDS Day.

The Osito Boys Big Dream
Our big dream is to begin with “Osito Clinicas” in the capital city of each Latin American country, providing free HIV/AIDS medical services and education.

The Osito Foundation would purchase a multilevel building and on the first floor would be the “Osito Clinica” and the other floors would be leased to local businesses and the revenue generated from the leases would go to help provide the free HIV/AIDS Services.

The “Osito Clinica” would be staffed by local Physicians that were trained in HIV care by Osito’s Medical Training Team. The services offered would be free HIV Testing, HIV Education and Medical Care. Prenatal care and education would play a huge role provided the fact that the vast majority of women in Latin America breast feed. Breast milk is a leading cause in the spread of HIV in Latin American countries.
