Children's AIDS Day The Children’s AIDS Day Conference attendees were given a close look at the amazing work of Dr. Mark Kline and his work with Baylor International Pediatric AIDS Initiative by Heidi Schwarzwald, MD., Vice President of Clinical Affairs. Esteemed OB/GYN Judy Levison MD., delivered current information on Pre-natal Care for women who were HIV Positive and Gloria Heresi MD., spoke on HIV in the Hispanic /Minority community. Kristen Close, LMSW spoke on Psychosocial Issues of Children and Adolescents with HIV. Legal expert Mitchell Katine from Katine and Nechman L.L.P. spoke on Legal Issues Facing Adults Caring for HIV Positive Children. Amy Leonard from Legacy Community Health Services spoke on Overcoming Barriers and Using Technology to reach Teens and Young Adults with HIV Prevention Messages. The day long conference was hosted by Emmy winner PBS TV Host Ernie Manouse with a special appearance by Osito was able to bring together many different types of businesses to sponsor the event and express their care and concerns of those impacted by the HIV Epidemic. on February 12, 2010 Osito made history by creating and hosting the first Children's AIDS Day. Children's AIDS Day was a day where children, youth, and families impacted by HIV/AIDS were the focus. It was historic in that from the beginning of the HIV/AIDS epidemic there had not been a day where a city, a state, or a nation came together to focus on Children infected/affected by HIV/AIDS.
Federal Health Projections estimates because of the new HIV infections in the demographic of 13-24 year olds that the HIV patient volume will increase by 20 to 50 percent nationwide. Minorities, in particular Minority Women are another leader in new HIV infections because of these statics Osito saw its next challenge was to raise awareness in these demographics.
Osito partnered with Lockton, Inc., United Healthcare, and BlueCross BlueShield of Texas to host the first Children’s AIDS Day Conference where not only children who had been impacted by HIV/AIDS but the family was the focus. Osito assembled an elite team of speakers from the fields of Medicine, Psychology, Legal, Social Services, Political Leaders, Entertainers and HIV/AIDS activists.
